![]() UPDATE 1/13/16 - According to a press release, Nikolas Layton submitted his resignation from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department on Tuesday evening. IMPD will work with our partners at the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office as these cases progress through the criminal justice system INDIANAPOLIS – Three people, including one police officer, were arrested today on drug charges in Indianapolis. Nikolas Layton, 35 -- a 10-year Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department veteran --was among those arrested by IMPD officers on preliminary charges including possession of cocaine and dealing in a controlled substance. He is also the son of Marion County Sheriff John Layton. Christopher Reed, 33, and Veronica Purdy, 41, were also arrested and are facing charges including suspicion of dealing in cocaine, conspiracy to deal cocaine, dealing in a controlled substance and possession of cocaine. According to the report, In November 2015, detectives with IMPD’s Special Investigations Unit reportedly initiated a narcotics investigation from information received from an outside agency. Layton is also the son of Marion County Sheriff John Layton and is currently assigned to the Hit & Run Investigation Unit. Chief Troy Riggs immediately suspended the suspect without pay and will recommend his termination to the Merit Board, according to an IMPD press release.
