A Clinton man was transported to an area hospital when he suffered non life-threatening injuries in a three-vehicle crash in Vigo County this afternoon.
Michael Karanovich , 59, complained of left side rib and shoulder pain at the scene.
Indiana State Police and Vigo County emergency agencies responded to the crash in the southbound lanes of State Road 63 at Durkees Ferry Road at around 3:15 p.m.
According to ISP Sgt. Joe Watts, a silver 2006 Cadillac, driven by Jon T. Piper, 75, of Vermilion, Ill., was westbound on Durkees Ferry Road attempting to cross State Road 63.
Piper struck a southbound green 1998 Saturn, driven by Karanovich, in the driver’s side. After impacting the Saturn, Piper’s Cadillac struck an eastbound 2009 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Michelle R. Wallace, 48, of West Terre Haute, that was stopped eastbound on Durkees Ferry Road at SR 63, according to the report.
Piper and his male passenger reported no injuries. Michelle Wallace and her three-year-old granddaughter (in a child seat) reported no injuries. Seatbelts were in use by all, Watts said.
Just after responding to a report of a separate shooting incident minutes before, Terre Haute Polce officers were dispatched to 21st Street and Wabash Avenue on a call for shots fired early this morning.
Officers arriving at the scene at about 1:10 a.m. reportedly spoke with witnesses who indicated hearing five to six shots being fired.
"One witness indicated observing a white SUV and a gold passenger car on the lot of the Speedway gas station just prior to hearing the shots. No injuries were reported to officers and both vehicles fled the scene when the shots were heard," Chief of Police Shawn Keen said.
