CLAY COUNTY -- After a reckless driving suspect's fingerprints were submitted to Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS,) officials were finally able to determine her identity.
Julie Miller, 20, of Louisville, Ky. was arrested by the Indiana State Police Tuesday. She was booked into the Clay County Jail, charged with resisting law enforcement; auto theft;, reckless driving; and refusal to identify self to law enforcement.
Sgt. Joe Watts explained that after the suspect was captured when fleeing ISP troopers and Clay County Sheriff’s deputies, she refused to identify herself when taken into custody.
"Upon arrest and over the next days, Miller failed to identify herself to law enforcement," Watts said.
Miller reportedly was driving a stolen 2002 Ford Taurus, passing traffic and utilizing the emergency shoulder on westbound Interstate 70 near the 16.5MM before her arrest that afternoon.
Watts said Miller lost control of the vehicle and nearly struck two troopers before crashing near a wood line. She then fled on foot.
The case has been investigated by ISP Master Trooper Troy Cobb.
