VERMILLION COUNTY -- A man was arrested Friday following a Vermillion County Sheriff's Office home improvement fraud investigation.
Charles Richardson III, 32, was taken into custody in Warren County on the Vermillion County warrant for theft and home improvement fraud around 1:30 p.m.
The investigation reportedly began when a northern Vermillion County resident notified Deputy Keith Warner on Sept. 28. The resident alleges the suspect had agreed to replace his roof in the spring.
"However, after the home owner had paid a substantial down payment of $4,300 to Richardson, Richardson failed to return to start the work and refused to return the monies," Vermillion Co. Sheriff Mike Phelps said.
Richardson was arrested by Warren County Deputies and then transported to the Vermillion County Jail by Deputy Warner, where he remains held on $10,000 bond.
CLAY COUNTY -- Two Clay County Sheriff's Department deputies were injured while attempting to take a suspect wanted on a warrant into custody this evening.
Sheriff Paul Harden confirmed the officers suffered minor injuries and were taken to St. Vincent Clay Hospital for further observation.
According to the report, three deputies were attempting to assist a family by completing a welfare check on an agitated person at their residence around 6:30 p.m.
Further investigation revealed the suspect had an active warrant out of Clay County.
"As deputies attempted to detain the suspect for the arrest warrant, he lunged at officers striking them several times in the head and face," Harden said. "The individual was erratic, walking into the highway, and throwing objects at moving vehicles. As the officers arrived at the residence on SR 340 they encountered the male who became very agitated."
The man was taken into custody following the lengthy struggle. He was then transported to the Clay County Jail.
