An Evansville woman was not injured when she fell asleep and drove off a steep embankment in Vermillion County this afternoon.
Emergency crews found Constance Davis-Oldham, 78, standing outside of her vehicle around 3:45 p.m. She stated that she must have fallen asleep while driving, according to the Vermillion County Sheriff's Office.
Deputy Chad Akers responded to the single - vehicle accident after a witness reported that she had just seen the silver passenger car drive off of the roadway on SR 63 near the Newport Caution Lights.
Deputy Nick Hall, Newport Rescue and Illiana EMS personnel assisted at the scene. Davis -Oldham declined medical attention at the time.
VERMILLION COUNTY- Two people were arrested after a drunk driving crash near Clinton Thursday afternoon.
Carty and Lawrence were both treated and released from Union Hospital Clinton for injuries suffered in the accident before being transported to the jail.
Lawrence had reportedly just purchased the car and officers could see that he was "extremely intoxicated." In fact, he was still drinking upon deputies’ arrival, according to the Vermillion County Sheriff's Office,
On-Star alerted dispatchers that a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro had hit a utility pole and two occupants were injured just before 4 p.m.
Emergency crews responded to the single vehicle crash on CR 280 E and discovered the "Camaro had lost control on the gravel road, leaving the east side of the roadway and snapped a Duke Energy power pole off at its base," a press release states.
Air bags were deployed. Live power lines down between the roadway and the crash scene created problems for responding personnel and caused a power outage in the area.
