Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen continues to draw a large crowd after opening on South Third Street, near Toys R Us, last month. Today, my 17-year-old son and I decided to try it.
First, let's take a look at the food.
I ordered a spicy chicken combo for about $7. Drink included, I think the cost of my meal was fair. My son and I agree that the chicken is good. It was fresh and crispy. In fact, I like it better than Kentucky Fried Chicken. My meal included cole slaw, a biscuit and mashed potatoes with gravy, which I will, however, admit were not as good compared to KFC side dishes.
Despite being busy in the afternoon, my dining experience was pleasant. The restaurant is clean and the employees made a good impression. The lines moved quickly. It should be noted that the location of self-service beverages are set up in a busy section, where congestion makes it difficult to maneuver around other customers and staff.
Popeyes is all right as far as fast food dining goes. I'm not sure it's worth the drive of a few miles from my residence. If I desire fried chicken again, I'll probably just go to Baesler's deli rather than travel out of my way.
