UPDATE -- Someone has created an online petition for the resignation of Vigo County School Superintendent Danny Tanoos, in light of the recent FBI investigation. Please see by following this link.
I think there needs to be a petition to have Danny Tanoos step down as superintendent of the Vigo County School Corp.
Whether or not he played a direct role in the internal corruption that ran so deep, the FBI raided the administration buildings last June, he is ultimately responsible for what goes on during his watch.
The FBI investigation and the two arrests yesterday, that included a nearly 40-year- veteran police officer, is a bad reflection on our community. Something needs to be done and done quickly to save Terre Haute's and Vigo County's image.
I applaud the school board's quick response in deciding to terminate the two suspects- Frank Shahadey and Frank Fennell- in the kickback scheme last night, as more information on the arrests came out. Maybe there is more to the story, time will tell.
I'm concerned Tanoos didn't immediately speak out in the best interest of the community and claim the scheme was an isolated incident. There needs to be much more accountablilty in the VCSC. It's a sad state of affairs as education in general is taking cuts left and right, while the two named suspects allegedly were eating and vacationing like kings with money that wasn't rightfully theirs. Very Sad.
I know I cannot be objective in covering Tanoos, which is why I avoid it in the Indiana Central News website as much as possible. And, as I think back to an incident where I had a direct confilict with him while working as reporter, I remember Shahadey was standing a mere 10 feet away that very day Sen. Ted Cruz(R-Texas) was visiting Wilson Middle School last summer. Interesting.
