Wabash Valley Correctional Facility
CARLISLE – Recently, 20 offenders graduated the Master Student to Master Employee (MSME) program. Wabash Valley Correctional Facility implemented the MSME Program in 2016. The participants learn valuable job skills that are geared towards transitioning the offender from a classroom setting to the actual workforce. During the course participants complete interactive journal entries and hands-on activities. They study curriculum to help them obtain their National Career Readiness Certification (NCRC). Additionally, each participant is set up with an individualized log-in that allows them to pull-up their resume when they go to the Department of Workforce Development (DWD) following their release. Indiana Correctional Industries Plant Manager Victor Manzo was the guest speaker. Mr. Manzo stated, “In my experience, when employers see an individual’s dedication and commitment to building their skills and abilities, they are willing to hire and train those individuals in the technical aspects of the job. As such, they are more likely to hire individuals that show commitment, dedication and ownership like what is required in completing MSME” Comments are closed.
