PORTER COUNTY -- State Police Senior Trooper Lawrence McFarrin went beyond his typical duties when he rescued a lost dog roaming on a busy northern Indiana interstate Saturday afternoon.
According to ISP Public Information Officer Ann Wojas, McFarrin was dispatched to a dog running on Interstate 94 eastbound near the 24 -mile -marker just after 2 p.m. Upon arrival, the trooper came in contact with a well-groomed, un-collared dog that was darting unsafely in and out of traffic. It was soon discovered that the dog, “Louie” , is a rescue dog and had escaped when a gate was left open at his owner's residence. McFarrin and many motorists on both the east and westbound sides reportedly stopped in attempt to capture Louie. "Eventually, the dog finally gave up do to fatigue/exhaustion and allowed them to capture him in the north ditch," Wojas said, noting the dog was not injured. According to the report, a Good Samaritan, Charles Law, of Portage, remained with McFarrin during the capture process and then transported the dog in his vehicle to the animal shelter in Hobart. Louie was reunited with his owner in Porter the following day, after Trooper McFarrin called local police departments and posted the escaped dog’s information on Facebook. Comments are closed.
