CARLISLE-- Quilts provided by the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility (WVCF) will help make Christmas brighter for some area veterans. Terre Haute VFW Post 972 Auxiliary President Jennifer Dean recently picked up 100 quilts made by PLUS (Purposeful Living Units Serve) participants. Ms. Dean said the quilts are bound for The Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis. She said the quilts will be included in gift bags for the ailing veterans.
“The PLUS quilts are absolutely beautiful and I’ve never been more proud of a group of individuals for the work they do,” Dean said.
PLUS Program Coordinator Jackie Storm said the unit is as busy as Santa’s Workshop these days. “We are making 100 lap quilts for our troops overseas, Big Brother-Big Sister will be getting 275 quilts and stockings and we have 500 quilts and stockings going to the Christmas for Kids in Sullivan County.” Jennifer Dean said she found out about the PLUS quilting program as a volunteer with the Sullivan Christmas for Kids campaign. “I think the veterans will really enjoy their holiday quilts too,” she added. The VFW Post 972 is the second largest in Indiana with a reputation for giving, collecting and sending supplies to our troops and donating money to several area charities. Comments are closed.
