PUTNAMVILLE – Today, three new probationary troopers reported for duty at the Indiana State Police Post in Putnamville. They are three of the 46 new troopers reporting to their districts of assignment following graduation from the 75th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy on Thursday, November 19. Their recent graduation marked the culmination of 21 weeks of intense training exceeding 950 hours. Some subject areas of training included criminal and traffic law, crash investigations, emergency vehicle operations, defensive tactics, firearms and a host of other subjects related to modern policing. Justin B. Bell, 27, is a graduate of Sullivan High School and served four years at the Sullivan County, Indiana Sheriff’s Office until his appointment to the ISP academy. Bell is also a graduate of the Indiana Basic Law Enforcement Academy, Session 11-191. He enjoys sports and physical fitness. Bell and his wife and two children reside in Sullivan County. Bell will be assigned primarily to Sullivan County. Bradley J. Fyfe, 26, is a graduate of Terre Haute South Vigo High School. Fyfe was a pharmacy technician prior to graduating from the ISP Academy. He enjoys SCUBA diving and other sports. Fyfe and his wife and child reside in Vermillion County. He will be primarily assigned to Vigo County. William B. Miller, 31, is a graduate of Sullivan High School, Vincennes University, and the Indiana Basic Law Enforcement Academy, Session 05-163. Miller served the last ten years as a deputy sheriff for Sullivan County Indiana. Miller comes from a law enforcement family as his father, Bill Miller, is currently the Warren County Indiana Sheriff, his brother Donald Miller is currently a Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Deputy, and his grandfather, James C. Miller, served with the Indiana State Police, in the early years of the ISP. Bell has other cousins and uncles that are or have been retired from, the Indiana State Police and other local agencies. He and wife and two children reside in Sullivan County. Miller will be primarily assigned to Sullivan County. The three new troopers will continue their training for the next three months as part of the ISP Field Training Program. The Field Training Program pairs new troopers with veteran troopers, or Field Training Officers, (FTO’s,) to allow the new troopers to take what they learned in the recruit academy and apply it in the field under the close supervision of the FTO. Upon successful completion of their field training, they will be issued their own commissions and be assigned solo patrol responsibilities. Comments are closed.
