Indiana State Prison
MICHIGAN CITY– On Sunday September 24, 2017 at 4:33 pm at the Indiana State Prison, correctional officers were assisting with a medical pass for Offender Orville L. Majors. Majors was breathing heavily and became unresponsive. A medical emergency was declared and the correctional staff performed CPR and applied an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Majors was transported to the Custody Hall where LaPorte County EMS continued CPR. Majors was pronounced dead at Franciscan Health Hospital, in Michigan City by the La Porte County Coroner at 5:11 pm on Sunday September 24, 2017. An autopsy was completed this morning. The preliminary results show cardiac issues with death due to natural causes. Majors, 56, of Linton, Indiana was serving a 360 year sentence from Clay County for six murder convictions, being served consecutively. His earliest projected release date had been July 1, 2177. (Editor's note: He was a former licensed practical nurse convicted of murdering his patients at a Vermillion County hospital.) About the Indiana State Prison: Built in 1860, The Indiana State Prison is the oldest correctional facility in the Indiana Department of Correction. The Indiana State Prison is located on 100 acres of land on Michigan City’s west side. The physical plant consists of 52 buildings, which include 13 offender-housing units, steam plant, garage, warehouse, industries buildings, and 5 staff housing units. The walled compound surrounds 24 acres of land. Located on the same grounds outside the wall is a medium/minimum security unit. Comments are closed.
