Wabash Valley Correctional Facility
CARLISLE - Cops Cycling for Survivors will pedal into the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility (WVCF) this coming Monday, marking their 4th consecutive stop at the maximum-security facility. During the Terre Haute to Princeton leg of their 13 day goodwill journey the group will join WVCF staff for a memorial ceremony. Cops Cycling for Survivors (CCFS) is a group of active and retired police and civilian riders who raise awareness and support law enforcement survivors through their annual 1,000 mile bicycle tour around the State of Indiana. The cyclists also raise funds to be utilized to assist survivors with emotional and financial support. A $500 donation from WVCF’s Inside Out Dads & PLUS (Purposeful Living Units Serve) programs will be presented to the group during a memorial ceremony dedicated to the memory of fallen correctional professionals. The ride always hits home for Wabash Valley Correctional Facility staff. In 2013, WVCF Officer Timothy Betts, who passed away August 26, 2012, was one of two officers honored by Cops Cycling for Survivors. The Greene County native, a 15 year WVCF veteran, died of a heart attack while escorting an unruly offender to segregation. Family members plan to be with us on this special day of remembrance.
All available staff plan to line up on the front administration sidewalk to welcome the group as they arrive Monday morning.
After the ceremony the CCFS crew will enjoy a brief break, lunch and refreshments provided by their WVCF hosts along with fruit and granola treats from the Sullivan County Salvation Army. Comments are closed.
