![]() NASHVILLE, Ind.— A standoff at a state park ended peacefully after an Alabama man allegedly pointed a gun at police last night. Indiana conservation officers were responding to a cabin at the Brown County State Park on a report that the suspect, Larry Stearley, 77, of Gulf Shores, Ala. had sent disturbing text messages to his daughter. Stearly was taken into custody at the park following a standoff at the cabin. He is facing charges related to the incident, including pointing a firearm at a person and resisting arrest. According to a DNR press release, Stearley came to the cabin door and allegedly pointed a gun at the officers when they arrived at the scene. One shot was fired by an officer as the officers reportedly left the porch, taking cover in the woods. Brown County Sheriff’s Department and Nashville Police Department officers arrived to assist at the scene a short time later.. Stearley eventually exited the cabin, no longer armed with a firearm, and he was then taken into custody. Stearley was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital for evaluation, according to the report. Comments are closed.
