Indiana Central News While the cost for a lifetime handgun carry permit in Indiana costs more than $100 at this time, lawmakers are proposing to eliminate that fee. The House voted in favor of the repeal today. Bill 1424 heads to the Senate for consideration. The proposal calls for continued background checks for those when puchasing a handgun, which is considered by many to be a constitutional right. However, the lifetime carry permit fee would be removed July 1 next year.
Meanwhile, critics of the bill say eliminating a permit fee will ultimately cost the state millions of dollars.
