Indiana Central News Downtown Terre Haute will have a fresher look when Indiana State University's Hulman Center renovation project is complete, The designs call for a total makeover for the exterior of the building and miscellaneous upgrades, including mechanical and electrical replacements. New concessions, restrooms, locker room and training facility renovations are in the plans, as well. Construction and designs cost is $50 million. The state appropriated $37.5 million of the costs, while ISU will use funds from university gifts, cash reserves and non-fee-replaced borrowing, according to information provided from the university. Opened in 1973 as Hulman Civic Center, officials have said it's long overdue for the interior and exterior changes currently underway. Hannig Construction is working on the project, designed by RATIO Architects. The project is expected to be completed by next year. According to the RATIO website: "Having remained untouched for 45 years, the aging Hulman Center will receive a major entrance pavilion expansion, a new façade envelope, complete mechanical systems update, and introduction of many areas to create a more thrilling fan experience. With a full renovation of more than 150,000 sq. ft., the rejuvenated Hulman Center and Arena will now attract larger shows and programs that will benefit from a new 10,000 sq. ft. grand welcome lobby pavilion, new box office suite, emergency medical triage suite, and exterior plaza and garden space connecting with the downtown Wabash Avenue Arts District of Terre Haute. " Interior renovations of the main floor include widening the entire concourse loop by pulling out the new façade several feet. This much needed width allows features such as new windows to the street to showcase activity both inside and outside, newly arranged restrooms, new concessions and support areas, and retail amenity areas. A decrease in arena capacity from 10,000 to 9,200 seats will allow for several new fan experiences. Comments are closed.
