SULLIVAN COUNTY -- Sullivan County will welcome visitors from around the world this week as bicyclists participate in the 36th Annual “Race Across America” endurance race. Each cyclist, with their safety crew following not far behind, will enter Sullivan County crossing the SR154 Wabash River bridge over a four day period - June 20 through June 24. The clock never stops during the coast to coast race meaning cyclists from every corner of the globe won’t spend much time visiting the friendly folks of Sullivan County. Top contenders must average over 300 miles per day! Race Across America has been covered by ESPN, The Today Show, ABC Wild World of Sports, USA Today, Sports Illustrated and numerous other major news outlets. Outside magazine ranked this 3000 mile race as the world’s toughest endurance event. Sullivan County Sheriff Clark Cottom said motorist should use extra care as they overtake bicyclists and their support vehicles that follow not far behind. The Sheriff has asked his deputies to extra patrol the routes keeping motorists speeds in check, so the event is successful and safe for all. Comments are closed.
