Riley FD delivers 400 smoke alarm batteries to Riley Elementary students
Riley Fire Department Nearly 400 Students at Riley Elementary School will be taking home a 9 volt battery today, thanks to efforts of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge Lockport #500. The program which started five years ago is designed to remind parents and student that with the change of your clocks this weekend is a time to replace the battery in your smoke detector. ![]() The IOOF and Riley FD provide the battery, fire prevention material and other information to the students and their families to remind everyone of the importance of having working smoke alarms in their homes. Riley FD personnel actively promote this message through the year but utilize the changing of a the clock in the spring and fall to coincide with the changing of the smoke detector batteries. Smoke alarms should be totally replaced every 10 years and we encourage everyone to contact their local fire department if you need smoke alarms in your home, Riley FD will not only provide them but will install them at no charge to its residents.
