Vigo County Sheriff's Office
During the past few days, the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office has received several reports from citizens concerning a phone call they received from a “Sgt. Middleton” informing them that they have an arrest warrant for their failing to appear for jury duty. “This is definitely a scam” Chief Deputy John Moats said. The caller is claiming to be with the VCSO and informs them that they owe $1,200 for the warrant. The caller will then advise the only way to avoid arrest and a criminal record i s to immediately send a $650 payment. The VCSO does not have an employee with the name “Sgt. Middleton” nor do they have a Warrant Division. “Under no circumstances will we call demanding money for a warrant” Chief Moats said. Detectives with the VCSO continue to follow leads in this case.
