Wabash Valley Correctional Facility
CARLISLE – Gordon Becher was recently appointed as the Fire Chief at Wabash Valley Correctional Facility (WVCF). Prior to taking the position, Becher served as a Deputy Fire Marshal for the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office for the Department of Homeland Security. He was also a member of the Vincennes City Fire Department where he served the citizens of Vincennes for 27 years before retiring as Fire Chief. Prior to that he served 5 years on the Vincennes Township Fire Department as Squad Captain. Becher was also a 3-time duly elected Coroner for Knox County and still serves as a Deputy Coroner. He also serves as a member of the board of directors for the Indiana State Coroners Association. As WVCF’s Fire Chief, his duties will include commanding the operations of the facility’s Fire Department as well as providing mutual aid to the surrounding communities. In addition, Chief Becher will perform inspections in the facility ensuring compliance with fire and building codes, as well as testing of all fire related equipment. When Warden Dick Brown was asked about the appointment of Chief Becher he stated, “Fire Chief Becher brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the WVCF team.
