Wabash Valley Correctional Facility
CARLISLE -- Bocce Ball, an Indiana Special Olympics fan favorite event, is ready to roll, thanks to Wabash Valley Correctional Facility (WVCF) crews! The 12 Bocce Ball courts began to take shape inside the Indiana State University Sports Annex Building yesterday morning. The 12-feet by 60-feet court frames, designed and produced by the WVCF maintenance team, are made from extremely durable guttering material. Strategically located sandbags and gutter connections help keep the courses together on the annex turf. WVCF maintenance staff and minimum-security offender crews were at the annex yesterday morning to set up the Bocce Ball courts. Nearly 500 Special Olympic athletes will be taking part in Bocce Ball and WVCF employees are once again volunteering their time to help staff the courts during the June 9-11 games. “We have a wonderful time every year helping out at the courts and getting to know the athletes, “ said WVCF Superintendent Richard Brown. WVCF Purposeful Living Units Serve (PLUS) and Fatherhood program participants donated $3,000 to make the courts back in 2013, replacing outdated wood frames. Leading up to the launch of the Indiana Special Olympic Summer Games in Terre Haute, Superintendent Brown and WVCF Training Officer Elise McDaniel will pace the 4 by 100 Law Enforcement Torch Run Relay. The event will take place June 9 at Gibson Track and Field, set for take off at 3:00p.m. Comments are closed.
