CARLISLE: Prevent Child Abuse Indiana's (PCAI) Pinwheels for Prevention effort is really spinning thanks to a boost from the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility (WVCF)! Sharon Pierce, President & CEO of PCAI accepted a check for $2,225 from PLUS (Purposeful Living Units Serve) Coordinator Jackie Storm. Ms. Storm said staff, offenders and participants in PLUS and the Wabash Valley Kyle Snyder American Legion Post #398 made the donation in the fight against child abuse. The pinwheel represents PCAI’s efforts to change the way we think about prevention. They focus on community activities and public policies that prioritize prevention right from the start to help make sure child abuse and neglect never occur. Wabash PLUS also joined forces with 13 other Indiana PLUS units to help fill 500 Prevent Child Abuse Indiana tool boxes. They are given to first time or at risk moms and their kids and include custom Wabash PLUS pinwheel quilts, an activity book and parenting tips. “Some of our PLUS participants were victims of or observed child abuse,” Storm said, adding, “The pinwheel quilts represent their heartfelt desire to end the scourge of child abuse.” Over 11,000 thousand child abuse or neglect incidents are reported yearly in Indiana.
