Wabash Valley Correctional Facility
CARLISLE – Recently Wabash Valley Correctional Facility (WVCF) Purposeful Living Unit Serve (PLUS) offenders made numerous quilts, Christmas stockings and children’s backpacks for two local charities, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Wabash Valley and Christmas 4 Kids of Sullivan County. Big Brothers Big Sisters Volunteer Emily Freeman stated, “Over the past eight years through our partnership with the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility PLUS Program we have been able to provide over 1,250 quilts and countless stockings to children and families in our programs.” The PLUS Program began in 2004 at WVCF as a way to generate change in the offender population. Upon entering the program offenders are allowed to select either a character based or faith based path to creating a more positive attitude. They are tasked with successfully completing all program modules, as well as 320 hours of community service. Volunteers assist the participants with the modules and help coordinate the community service projects that help the offenders learn to give back to society. Comments are closed.
