Wabash Valley Correctional Facility
TERRE HAUTE– Recently, Wabash Valley Correctional Facility offenders set up the Bocce Ball Courts for the Summer Games for Special Olympics held in Terre Haute. Bowling, Bocce Ball, Cycling, Horse Shoes, Power Lifting, Swimming, Volleyball and Track & Field are the eight sports open to those participating in the Summer Games. This is the seventh year that WVCF has joined efforts with Special Olympics Indiana to ensure that courts are available for Bocce Ball. As a highlight to this year’s games Special Olympics Indiana celebrated their 50th Anniversary. To commemorate the event several Terre Haute businesses donated funds to make it possible for each participant to receive an Underarmour shirt with their area logo. The Summer Games were open to all Special Olympics county programs. In addition, fireworks took place on Saturday. Special Olympics Sports Programs Manager Patrick Kozlowski stated that Bocce ball is one of the sports with the most participants. There were approximately 300 teams signed up. The summer games took place this past weekend. WVCF is glad they were able to be a part of making the games possible. .
