Wabash Valley Correctional Facility
CARLISLE- "'Hunters Hugs" has teamed with the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility (WVCF) to help keep the homeless warm this winter. Fifty quilts made by the facility PLUS (Purposeful Living Units Serve) unit have been donated to Hunters Hugs, created by nine-year Hunter Lenk of Indianapolis. The third-grader collects blankets to give to the homeless in central Indiana. Hunter came up with the idea three years ago while passing out "Blessing Bags" at Wheeler Mission in Indianapolis. He told his grandmother, Tracy King, instead of the bags, containing things like chap stick and a poncho, the homeless really needed a warm blanket.
When Wabash Valley PLUS Coordinator Jackie Storm heard about the project arrangements were made to help the cause. Grandmother Tracy King picked up the quilts at the maximum-security facility. Many of the quilts will go to the Wheeler Mission, others will be handed out by Hunter in downtown Indianapolis. Hunters Hugs wants to collect more than 500 blankets before the new year begins.
