Indiana Central News CLAY COUNTY - Two people are dead after a semi truck slammed into the vehicle they were in on Interstate 70 in Clay County yesterday. Deceased:
Emergency crews responded to the four - vehicle accident just after 5:30 p.m. Indiana State Police Sgt. Matt Ames said another person involved in the crash was transported to a Terre Haute hospital for treatment. According to the report, a semi-tractor trailer was disabled alongside I-70 in the emergency lane near the 21 mile marker, when Serge Marquis, 54, of Quebec, was traveling eastbound in a 2014 Peterbuilt semi-tractor trailer. He failed to see that traffic was slowing for the parked semi and struck the 2015 GMC passenger vehicle Soroa was driving. He crashed into the rear of her vehicle, forcing it off the roadway and into the median. The semi continued traveling eastbound, striking the second vehicle , a pickup truck pulling a trailer, driven by Christian Birch, 40, of Trafalgar, Ind. The semi-tractor trailer traveled off the roadway and came to a stop. A large ramp from Birch's trailer became dislodged after the semi crashed into it, landing in the driving lane of the interstate. Nishant Nair Ajax, 40, Ontario, was driving a second semi, a 2018 Freightliner. He could not avoid the dislodged ramp, running over it. Ames said Drugs and alcohol are not a contributing factor of the crash. The investigation is ongoing at this time. Jackson Township Fire Department, Vigo County Sheriff’s Department, Clay County Coroner’s Office, Indiana Department of Transportation and Star Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
