Indiana Central News VERMILLION COUNTY -- The Vermillion County Sheriff's Office is investigating a crash that seriously injured four -- including two adults, a juvenile and an infant -- on Interstate 74 Saturday. Hospitalized with life threatening injuries:
According to the report, Campbell was transported to Carle Hospital in Champaign, Ill for life threatening injuries. Acuna, the juvenile passenger and infant passenger were all transported to Carle Hospital for life threatening injuries suffered in the crash. Emergency crews responded to the scene where several vehicles and semi trucks had collided just after 3:15 p.m. Deputies Chad Akers and John Benton were at the scene of a vehicle fire near the 1.0mm on west bound interstate 74, when the unrelated traffic accident occurred a half mile to the east of them. Investigation revealed that a semi driven by Daniel Alvarez, 53, of Peoria, Ill., failed to slow down due to slowed/stopped traffic and collided with vehicles -- causing a chain reaction. According to the Vermillion Co. Sheriff's Office, the semi struck a passenger car driven by Acuna, After striking Acuna, The semi then struck a pick-up truck driven Jeremy Ramage , 44, of Union, Ky. The semi then struck an SUV driven by Campbell.Alvarez continued, stiking another semi driven by Kathy McCarthy, 59, Edgewater, Fla. Indiana State Police were called to the scene to reconstruct the accident. - Deputy Akers was assisted at the scene by Vermillion Co Deputies Warner, Wilson and Weyrauch, Fountain Co. Sheriffs Office, Warren Co. Sheriffs Office, Covington PD, Veedersburg PD, Vermilion Co IL Sheriff’s Office, Perrysville Fire, Newport Rescue, Illiana EMS, Fountain Co.
