Capone Grigsby, 22, of Terre Haute, was recently charged with robbery resulting in serious bodily injury, a level 2 felony, and aggravated battery, a level 3 felony. Grigsby was booked into the Vigo County Jail Tuesday afternoon, where he joins several other alleged accomplices accused of attacking a man outside the 6th Avenue Bar in north Terre Haute. Darious Webb, 21, was arrested Aug. 25; Joshua Hammonds, 22, was arrested Aug. 29; and Tony Hines, 22, was arrested Aug. 31. According to the probable cause affidavit prepared by Det. Jeff Trotter, the Terre Haute Police Department received a complaint on Aug. 13 by a person claiming that he had been battered outside of 6th Avenue Bar. He stated that he had been talking to two females, when he was approached by several black males before being knocked unconscious. He reportedly named Webb as one of the attackers. While he was out, he claimed, a number of items were stolen from his pockets and his car. The items he listed included $400 in cash, a credit card, his driver’s license and his cell phone. The man told Trotter that he received medical treatment after he returned to his hometown. Two witnesses allegedly confirmed the man’s story, and also identified Webb, and one of the witnesses informed police that there was likely video surveillance of the incident. Dep. Sgt. Denzil Lewis was able to obtain a surveillance video from 6th Avenue Bar, and he and THPD Lt. Matt Carden reportedly watched, and saw Grigsby and Webb kicking and punching the alleged victim, even after he fell unconscious. The man also told officers that his credit card had been used at a number of stores around Terre Haute, and that he had talked to a corporate security investigator at the bank which issued the card. She had allegedly told him that a man had called from Hammonds’s phone to ask about the spending limit on the card. After re-watching the surveillance videos, Hammonds was allegedly recognized as one of the attackers. Trotter also stated in the affidavit that Hammonds and another male were captured on store videos, using the credit card. Comments are closed.
