SULLIVAN COUNTY —  A Sullivan man was arrested yesterday morning on drug charges after he was pulled over for allegedly failing to use his turn signal.

David L. Kendall, 65, was booked into the Sullivan County Jail, where he is charged with felony possession of methamphetamine; dealing in methamphetamine; and maintaining a common nuisance. 

Indiana State Police Sgt. Joe Watts explained that Senior Trooper Brent Robinson stopped the blue Ford Mustang on northbound US 41 near C.R. 975 N. around 9:20 a.m.

During a search, Kendall was found to be in possession of about four grams of  methamphetamine and more than $800 in cash, Watts said.

SULLIVAN COUNTY - A wanted sex offender was apprehended tonight after he was reported crossing back into Indiana from Illinois.

William Lester Harris, 44,  formerly of Lewis, was booked into the Sullivan County Jail on a warrant for failure to register as sex offender.  He is also wanted in Illinois for aggravated  driving under the influence. 

"Harris narrowly escaped capture in Crawford County, Ill. late Sunday," Sullivan County Sheriff Clark Cottom said.

Cottom alerted the public that the man was wanted last Wednesday.

Just after 8 p.m., Illinois authorities alerted Sullivan County dispatch that Harris had crossed the Wabash River at Hutsonville, heading into Indiana, Cottom explained.

 Deputy Jeffrey Kinnett spotted Harris’ vehicle turning northbound on SR 63 from SR 154.  Harris reportedly traveled north then turned east on SR48. 

Harris was taken into custody without incident after Kinnett conducted a traffic stop,  

Harris remains held in the jail on a $12,000 bond, with no 10 percent allowed.
