Indiana Central News SULLIVAN - A Sullivan man is dead after an early Thanksgiving morning crash when an alleged drunk driver failed to negotiate a curve. A passenger in the blue Subaru, Landon Vaughn, 27, was ejected from the vehicle --- and despite extensive attempts to resuscictate the victim, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, Parker German, 28, also of Sullivan, was treated and released from a local hospital from a shoulder injury suffered in the crash and submitting to a toxicology test. He was then booked into the Sullivan County Jail, where he is charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated - resulting in death, a Level 5 Felony.The preliminary toxicology report indicated that German had a blood alcohol of .09 percent. According to Sullivan County Sheriff Clark Cottom, German was southbound on CR 350 W. near Old Hwy 54 just before 4:30 a.m. when the Subaru left the roadway. crossing a ditch before overturning multiple times. "The vehicle came to rest in a bean field and immediately caught fire," Cottom said, adding that German was able to exit the vehicle and call 911.

Indiana Central News SULLIVAN COUNTY-- An Indianapolis woman was booked into the Sullivan County Jail for allegedly driving impaired after being stopped for speeding today. Tarina M. Martin, 46, is charged with driving under the influence-refusal, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia. Indiana State Police Senior Trooper Brent Robinson reportedly clocked then northbound tan 2011 Chevrolet Impala at 80 miles-per-hour in a 60 mph zone on US 41 near C.R. 550 S. at around 11:15 a.m. ISP Sgt. Joe Watts explained that Robinson discovered approximately two grams of alleged marijuana, as well as assorted paraphernalia commonly associated with illegal drug use during further investigation at the scene. He reminds citizens to drive responsibly as officers are increasing patrols for the holidays. "Operation Pull Over is currently underway and troopers are going to be extra vigilant in their patrols," Watts said. |
