![]() PUTNAM COUNTY - Two Columbus, Ohio residents were taken into custody without incident after a man was fatally shot late last night while inside a vehicle on Interstate 70. Occupants of the vehicle arrested this morning and booked into the Putnam County Jail include:
According to Indiana State Police Sgt. Joe Watts, the victim, Mario L. Edwards, 33, also of Columbus, was allegedly shot in the torso by a passenger during an argument that led to gunfire while riding in a passenger van near Cloverdale, at around 10 p.m. An autopsy is scheduled for later this week. The group was traveling from Ohio to Missouri. "While en-route, two individuals in the back seat of the vehicle entered into an argument. During the disagreement, one rear seat passenger fired multiple gunshots, from what is believed to be a handgun, into the victim’s torso. After the shooting, the occupants of the vehicle found their way to Putnam County Hospital where they relinquished the victim to the emergency room staff and immediately left," Watts said, noting a witness was also left behind at the hospital. A Putnam County Sheriff’s deputy located the suspect vehicle, a white 2016 Kia Sedona van, westbound on SR 240 near CR 500 E at about 2 a.m. The vehicle was reportedly stopped approximately one-half mile north of Indianapolis Road on Round Barn Road near Greencastle, Watts explained . The lead investigator is ISP Detective Don Curtis. Assisting were ISP Detectives First Sgt.Jason Fajt and Sgt. Sam Stearley, Putnam County Sheriff Scott Stockton and deputies, including PCSO Detective Doug Nally, Putnam County Coroner’s Office, Greencastle Police Department, the Cloverdale Police Department and Putnam County Prosecutor Tim Bookwalter.
