![]() VERMILLION COUNTY -- A duo reportedly on a mission to find mushrooms, but failing to follow policy requiring visitors on school grounds to first seek permission, were booked into the Vermillion County Jail this afternoon. They were not in possession of any firearms, however, one suspect was reported to be in possession of a walking stick. Gregory A. Lowe, 54, and John R. Wilson, 52, both of rural Clinton, were both arrested for criminal trespass on a school property, a lvel 6 offense. Wilson has since posted $10,000 bond. Law Enforcement from the Vermillion County Sheriff's Office, Indiana State Police, Clinton Police Department and Indiana Department of Natural Resources were surrounding the schools and wooded area in Vermillion County this afternoon, accroding to a VCSO press release. K-9 units from Clinton Police Department and DNR entered the woods, along with officers on ATV's, and by 1 p.m., the two suspects were located and taken into custody without incident and their vehicle was towed from the property. The scare started when Vermillion School Corporation contacted the Vermillion County Sheriff's Office about the two men dressed in camouflage attire who had reportedly parked in an older gold Chevy S-10 pickup in the middle school staff parking lot and then walked near the edge of the school and then across the yard into the woods behind the middle school. School officials locked down the schools and called authorities and Superintendent Dave Chapman sent out a recorded message to parents advising of the situation. "Both men stated that they had simply parked there to go mushrooming and Lowe insists that he doesn't need school permission to be on the property," according to the reprort. Neither of the men attempted to make contact with the school as to why they were there or to obtain permission to be on school grounds, the report states. Comments are closed.
