CLAY COUNTY -- Emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle crash involving two semi trucks this afternoon that left one man injured and another man cited for speed.
Indiana State Police and Clay County emergency agencies arrived at the scene around 3:30 p..m. in the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 near the 21.7 mile marker near Brazil. According to ISP Sgt. Joe Watts, a white 2000 Freightliner, pulling a box trailer loaded with auto parts, driven by Harpit Atwal, 43 of Brampton, Ontario, failed to slow and struck the rear of a 2005 Freightliner tractor, driven by Robert L. Cooper, 59, of Mooresville. Traffic was slow or stopped in the area for an approaching construction zone when the two crashed, Watts explained. The trucks subsequently moved into the eastbound passing lane. "Harpit Atwal refused medical treatment at the scene and was cited for speed too fast to avoid a collision," Watts said., noting that Cooper was transported to a Terre Haute hospital for treatment of neck and back pain. Cooper was not cited. ![]()
