Caller alerts trooper to drunken driver

Ross E. Davis, 70, of Terre Haute,was arrested this afternoon after an on duty officer was tipped off by a phone call that the suspect appeared to be driving impaired.

Davis was booked into the Vigo County Jail. He is charged withOperating While Intoxicated (felony for previous conviction) and open alcoholic container violation

Indiana State Police Master Trooper Jason Schoffstall located the silver 1999 Chevrolet pickup at about 1:30 p.m.. on Hunt Street near Old Fort Harrison Road, headed northbound and allegedly driving erratically.

According to report by Sgt, Joe Watts, , alcoholic containers were present in the vehicle and the suspect appeared to be intoxicated.  

He was taken to a local hospital, where a blood test revealed he was .302 percent ,  nearly four times the legal amount for intoxication, Watts said.

Assisting was ISP Master Trooper Hans Nowak and Trooper Brandon Mullen.
