Indiana Central News SULLIVAN COUNTY— A former Southwest School Corp. treasurer was arrested this morning following an Indiana State Police theft investigation, months after a suspicious series of credit card purchases were noticed. Amy R. Kinnett, 40, of Sullivan, was booked into the Sullivan County Jail, where she is charged with one count of official misconduct, a level 6 felony. According to Sgt. Joe Watts , Kinnett surrendered to ISP at around 9 a.m. Kinnett reportedly is the wife of former Sullivan County Sheriff Bryan Kinnet, whom Clark Cottom, current sheriff, replaced in office in 2015 Allegations of wrongdoing began to surface against Kinnett in August, when school officials started to question thousands of dollars in credit card purchases. Watts explained today that the evidence arose indicating Kinnett used the Southwest School Corp. credit card between 2015 and 2017 for miscellaneous personal purchases, including bridal, hotel, grocery, telephone and clothing, exceeding $6,000. Kinnett also allegedly removed cash from various envelopes in the custody of the treasurer’s office totaling more than $1,000 and possessed several checks payable to SSC that were not deposited within one business day of receipt, as required by Indiana law, Watts said. The investigation wraps up with the today's arrest, three months after ISP Special Investigations Detective Sgt.Troy Stanton met with representatives from a private accounting firm, hired by the the school corporation located in Sullivan County to review financial records in August. No additional charges or information is anticipated,Watts notes, adding that Kinnett has made substantial restitution efforts to the SSC during the course of the investigation.
