![]() UPDATE: THPD officers arrest suspect in hit-and-run. See story -- The Terre Haute Police Department is investigating a hit-and- run accident after a pedestrian suffered what officials believe to be non life-threatening injuries in the incident last night. "The victim was struck by the oncoming vehicle and was thrown to the ground," Sgt. Michael Ellerman said today, adding , "A man walking with the victim saw the vehicle coming toward them and tried to pull the victim out of the path of the oncoming vehicle, but was unable to do so." Emergency crews were dispatched to Third and Poplar Streets at around 10 p.m. after witnesses called 9-1-1 Witnesses reportedly informed officers that the victim was walking across Third Street at the Poplar Street intersection when a small red passenger car south of them turned onto Third Street and accelerated to a high rate of speed headed northbound. ![]() According to the report, witnesses pulled the victim from the roadway, called 9-1-1 and began rendering first aid. The victim appeared to have a broken leg and Terre Haute Fire Department personnel transported him to an area hospital. Officers recovered car parts believed to belong to the suspect vehicle on scene, including the passenger side mirror. The investigation is ongoing and the Terre Haute Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating the vehicle and suspect in this incident.
