![]() CLAY COUNTY— A Clay County man was arrested after allegedly driving drunk and leading police on a high speed chase yesterday afternoon. Patrick H. Ryan Jr., 55, of Brazil, is charged with operating while intoxicated-refusal; reckless driving; leaving the scene of an accident; and traffic citations for speeding and no valid license. He reportedly failed field sobriety tests and failed to meet the requirements of a certified breath test and was booked into the Clay County Jail. Indiana State Police Trooper Brandon Mullen was patrolling US 40 near CR 425 W. at about 3:20 p.m., afternoon when he radar clocked a gray Pontiac Grand Prix at 101 miles-per-hour in a 55 mph zone. According to a report by ISP Sgt. Joe Watts, Mullen activated his emergency lighting and attempted to stop the vehicle but the Pontiac continued eastbound at a high rate of speed and forcing other vehicles off the roadway. The Pontiac then side-swiped another vehicle and spun out in the median near CR 200W, Watts added. "Trooper Mullen immediately took the driver into custody and noticed classic signs of intoxication. A second driver then approached Mullen and advised that the impaired driver had rear ended his vehicle near Hulman Airport in Vigo County and fled the scene," Watts said. Assisting were ISP Trooper Kyle Hall and the Brazil Police Department. Comments are closed.
