Indiana Central News GRANT COUNTY – A former lieutenant detective with the Grant County Sheriff’s Department faces multiple charges following an Indiana State Police theft investigation. Shelby Taylor, 42, of Marion, faces criminal charges for official misconduct, theft and possession of a controlled substance. Officials say Taylor resigned in light of the allegations. His initial court hearing is scheduled for October 22. According to ISP Sgt. Tony Slocum, Grant County Sheriff Reggie Nevels asked state police to investigate alleged thefts of evidence -- specifically prescription medications --- from the GCSD property room. The investigation began in early August. Taylor reportedly was one of three police employees who had access to the secured property room. "Taylor purportedly removed the medication and completed documentation indicating the evidence had either been destroyed or submitted to a lab for testing. There was no evidence that either of those things had occurred," Slocum explained. Comments are closed.
