Indiana Central News CLAY COUNTY -- Stephen M. Lucas, 68, of Brazil, was booked into the Clay County Jail last night around 7 p.m. after allegedly becoming aggressive when questioned about a possible gun during a trafffic stop in Clay County. Lucas faces the following charges: Possession of a handgun without a license (misdemeanor); resisting law enforcement (misdemeanor); and battery on law enforcement (felony.) According to the report, Indiana State Police Trooper Michael Organ stopped the white Chevy Tahoe near the 19 MM on Interstate 70 for the license plate and expiration tag being obstructed. The suspect initially refused to provide the officer his license when requested, Trooper BJ Patterson explained today, adding that it was found to be suspended. Ultimately, Lucas also possessed an expired handgun permit. The argument escalated as Organ asked more questions, provoking the suspect to get out of his vehicle and shove the officer. Trooper Organ reportedlly noticed an outline of a gun in Lucas' right pocket after the suspect exited the vehicle and demanded to see why he was stopped. "When questioned if he had guns on his person, the driver refused to answer and made several anti-government statements. Trooper Organ noticed that the subject was attempting to hide his right side from him. When advised he was going to be patted down for safety reasons the subject refused, pushed Trooper Organ away and stated, 'It’s none of your business,' Patterson said. Other troopers arrived on scene to assist and Trooper Organ was able to take the driver into custody Comments are closed.
