Indiana Central News An early morning bicyclist was arrested in Vermillion County after fleeing from a sheriff's deputy who had stopped to check on him while on patrol Wednesday. Lucas A. Sanders, 38, of Clinton, was booked into the Vermillion Co. Jail and charged with resisting law enforcement and possession of marijuana. He remains held in the jail on $7,000 bond. Deputy Keith Warner suffered injuries from a fall during the foot chase with the suspect and is currently on light duty at the Vermillion County Sheriff's Department. According to the report, Warner -- noticing indicators of illegal activity -- asked Sanders if he had anything illegal on him during the interaction, which occurred just before 2 a.m. "Lucas consented to a pat-down search, but then attempted to strike Deputy Warner with his right elbow and then fled on foot, " according to the Vermillion County Sheriff's Department. A subsequent foot chase ensued. "Lucas ran through a driveway and backyard of a residence and then ran into a utility trailer in the backyard and fell to the ground, where additional officers arrived and assisted with taking Sanders into custody," the report states. -- Assisting Officers: Clinton Patrolman D'auria, Deputy Ellis, Fairview Deputy Marshal Stafford.
