![]() UPDATE 10 p.m.: The suspect in the Hulman Street crash has been identified as Matthew Scott, 39, of Terre Haute. Scott was booked into the Vigo County Jail on two counts of battery on police, resisting law enforcement, and leaving the scene of a property damage accident. Central dispatch initially advised Terre Haute Police Department officers of a hit-and -run property damage crash at the intersection of Third Street and Margaret Avenue at about 6:45 p.m. today. Dispatch reportedly alerted officers of the suspect's vehicle, a blue Toyota Prius, plate number and direction of travel. Public Information Officer Ryan Adamson said shortly after the arrest, that an officer who was working Operation Pullover located the suspect vehicle in the area of South Ninth and Hulman Streets after the suspect tried to drive between a house and a fence. “The vehicle was stuck and trying to flee the area when the officer approached. The officer ordered the suspect out of the vehicle, however the suspect did not comply. The officer pulled the suspect out of the vehicle to keep him from taking off again,” Adamson said, adding that a physical altercation occurred between the suspect and the officer. Adamson explained that two bystanders helped the officer get the suspect under control until other patrol units arrived. The Terre Haute Police Department is grateful for their assistance in the case, he said. ------- The Terre Haute Police Department is investigating a crash after a man lost control of his vehicle and struck a house on the south side this evening. He was taken into custody immediately following the crash at about 7 p.m. The suspect showed signs of being impaired at the scene and was uncooperative with police. Witnesses said the man struck a car with his blue Toyota Prius and then ran over a one-way street traffic sign before crashing into the side of a house and fence located on the norththwest corner of South Ninth and Hulman Streets. No injuries were reported, however Terre Haute Fire Department EMTs responded to the scene. More information will be provided as it becomes available. Comments are closed.
