CLAY COUNTY -- A Brazil man was taken into police custody after crashing his motorcycle into a ditch last night following an attempted traffic stop in Clay County.
Paul C. Vogel, 31, of Brazil, was booked into the Clay County Justice Center just after 10 p.m. He is charged with habitual traffic violator (level 6 felony);resisting law enforcement (level 6 felony); false/fictitious registration and no financial responsibility, both infractions. According to Indiana State Police Sgt. Joe Watts, Vogel refused to stop and accelerated eastbound on Collins Street to SR 59 and then northbound on SR 59 reaching speeds of 75 miles-per-hour. Master Trooper Todd Brown initally attempted to stop the blue and white Yamaha motorcycle for an improper registration plate on eastbound Collins Street near Meridian Street in Brazil. Watts noted that the license plate expiration appeared to have been altered to year 2017 with the use of a black marker.
Police reportedly caught up with Vogel after he made a U-turn and traveled back southbound on SR 59 to Collins Street at county road 1100 N.
"As the driver attempted a right turn on Collins Street, the cycle crashed into a nearby ditch," Watts said. The Brazil Police Department assisted at the scene. Comments are closed.
