SULLIVAN - A truck driver was injured in a crash with a dump truck today in Sullivan County.
John Lewis,47, of Lafayette, was transported to a Terre Haute hospital for treatment of injuries and is listed in stable condition at this time. Sullivan County Sheriff Clark Cottom explained that the dump truck, driven by Lucas Shew, 22, of Sullivan, had turned northbound onto US 41, from CR 200 S., when the northbound semi tractor-trailer struck the rear of the dump truck. Lewis was trapped in his vehicle and was extricated by emergency crews. According to the report, he had possible broken bones and internal injuries from the crash. Shew declined transportation to a hospital. US 41 northbound was closed for an hour and a half while crews worked the scene. The investigation is ongoing. Sullivan City Police, Dugger Town Marshal, and Indiana Conservation Officers assisted with traffic control. Fire rescue crews assisting were Sullivan City Fire, Haddon Township and Thunderbird Fire.
