Indiana Central News SULLIVAN COUNTY- After dealing with a couple of recent hoaxes, a local sheriff is handling what he calls "real threats." Sullivan County Sheriff Clark Cottom reports that an arrest was made early this morning after a juvenile suspect allegedly made serious threats directed against Sullivan High School Students. The juvenile was taken into custody around 1 a.m. She has been transported to Southwest Juvenile Detention Center in Vincennes, where she is charged with felony intimidation. This news comes just three days after a 12-year-old Shelburn girl was arrested for making threats at a Dugger school. In fact, Sheriff Cottom and his agency have worked four youth violence - related incidents, at three high schools, in five days. "A troubling trend," he said.
According to Cottom, the potential threat in the latest case was averted after quick thinking Sullivan High School students reported an overheard threatening comment to school officials.
"A high school student had been plotting to cause serious bodily harm to as many as three other local teens," he said, noting the investigation did not reveal that an act of violence was to be carried out on school property. Deputies Jeffery Kinnett and Eric Valdez were assigned to the investigation and reportedly interviewed all parties until the arrest was made this morning --- after Southwest School Corporation Superintendent Chris Stitzle contacted law enforcement immediately regarding the threat.
