-- CLAY COUNTY -- A suspect was transported to the hospital with minor injuries after nearly striking a police car and leading multiple agencies on an erratic pursuit before being taken into custody this afternoon in Clay County. Troopers were alerted by a 911 caller reporting a gold Ford Taurus was utilizing the emergency lane west of SR 59 to pass traffic at a very high rate of speed, Indiana State Police Sgt. Joe Watts said. The driver of the Taurus was ultimately captured on foot southwest of the hightway in a wooded area after an hour- long pursuit. Watts noted that Clay County Sheriff’s Deputy Bill Nevill and K-9 “Argo” initiated a “track” into the wooded area that helped take the suspect into custody. The suspect's identity has not been released at this time. "Documents in the vehicle lead troopers to believe there may be a connection to residents of Kentucky," Watts said, noting the suspect is facing charges related to the chase, including reckless driving and resisting law enforcement. According to the report, ISP troopers working along Interstate 70 were alerted of the allegedly speeding and reckless driver in western Clay County just after noon.Additional troopers and Clay County Sheriff’s deputies reported to assist after the suspect nearly struck the troopers as he drove westbound on I-70. The suspect was transported to a Brazil hospital for treatment of a wrist injury suffered in the crash, Watts said. The case is being investigated by ISP Master Trooper Troy Cobb. Assisting were ISP Troopers Brent Robinson, Jim Cruse, Kyle Hall, and Joe Watts; Clay County Sheriff’s Deputies Sergeant Jerry Siddons and Bill Nevill and K-9 “Argo” and Mikes Towing.
