Indiana Central News PUNTNAM COUNTY -- A domestic battery suspect accused of pointing a gun at a sheriff's deputy last week in Putnam County has been released from the hospital and transported to jail. Adam Wagner, 35, of Greencastle, had undergone medical treatment for gunshot wound-related injuries suffered in the incident after the deputy reportedly responded to the situation by shooting the suspect in the torso two times. Indiana State Police Sgt. Joe Watts explained that further investigation determined the weapon Wagner was armed with was a BB gun. Wagner faces multiple charges related to the domestic battery investigation in addition to charges for allegedly pointing a handgun at a deputy sheriff. Troopers transported him to the Putnam County Jail today on the following warrant charges: Two counts of intimidation (level 5 felony); one count of strangulation (level 6) felony; one count of domestic battery (level 6) felony; and one count of criminal confinement (level 6) felony. The incident happened last Thursday night when three Putnam County Sheriff's deputies responed to the 911 call alleging abuse with the suspect's live-in girlfriend. According to Watts, the suspect's girlfriend had signs consistent with a physical struggle and domestic battery.
Three deputies found the armed suspect at the door of his residence.
"Adam Wagner suddenly exited a southern lower level door and pointed a handgun at special deputy Ian Zeffel. Deputy Jeffery Freeman immediately drew his weapon and ordered Wagner to drop his, at which time Wagner pointed the weapon at Deputy Freeman causing Deputy Freeman to fire two rounds from his service weapon striking Adam Wagner in the torso," Watts said. The lead investigator was ISP Detective Don Curtis. Assisting are ISP Detectives First Sergeant Jason Fajt, Detective Don Anglin, and Detective Mike Featherling, Putnam County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Putnam County Sheriff‘s Office.
