Kevin A. Nasser, 53, of Terre Haute, was arrested yesterday following an arson investigation at a northside duplex. The blaze resulted in injuries to a resident at home during the incident.
Nasser is facing six charges, including: One count of arson resulting in bodily injury; two counts of Arson (level 4 felony); two counts of Intimidation (a level 6 felony); and one count of Residential Entry (level 6 felony). Members of the Terre Haute Police Department criminal investigations unit, along with Terre Haute Fire Department Asst. Chief and Arson Investigator Norm Loudermilk reportedly served an arrest warrant at about 4 p.m. yesterday, in addition to serving a search warrant on Nasser at his home. Nasser was taken into custody without incident and was booked into the Vigo County Jail. THPD Sgt. Michael Ellerman explained that the building, at 18 N 37th St , included an upstairs and downstairs apartment, with the upstairs resident at home at the time of the fire which occurred Monday night. The victim had to flee the apartment through flames and broken glass, causing injuries. While in route to the scene at around 10:45 p.m., Vigo County Dispatch advised officers that a white male fled south down the side walk after setting the above house on fire. "Witnesses reported to police that they observed a white male wearing black clothing and a white hat knocking loudly on the door of 18 N. 37th St. He then walked around to the back door and moments later they observed the male come back to the front door and then saw flames start by the front door," Ellerman said. Nasser is scheduled to appear in court today. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Terre Haute Police Department at 812-238-1661 or Crime Stoppers at 812-238-STOP.
