MORGAN COUNTY -- A Texas man was booked into the Morgan County Jail after a trooper stopped his vehicle with three juvenile illegal alien occupants on Interstate 70 for an expired registration plate.
Procopio Torres, 21, of Houston, was taken into custody and charged with three misdemeanor counts of harboring and transporting illegal aliens and one misdemeanor count of operating vehicle while never licensed. According to the report, the Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Trooper stopped a 2005 Hyundai Elantra on eastbound I- 70 near the 55 mile marker. During conversations with the driver, the trooper noticed possible indicators of criminal activity, Sgt. Joe Watts explained, noting that human trafficking was not ruled out since the three juvenile male passengers -- all ages from 12 to 16 --- possessed no identification and did not personally know the Torres. "In turn, the driver did not know them and was believed to be driving the males from Houston, Texas to an unknown location in New York City for profit," Watts said. The three juveniles were taken into protective custody until relatives can be located. Assisting was the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency. Comments are closed.
