Trooper arrests 2 suspects with fraudulent credit cards on I-70

PUTNAMVILLE — ​ Two suspects were arrested following a traffic stop yesterday on Interstate 70 in Putnam County after a trooper found they possessed fraudulent credit cards.

• ​Driver Joseph A. Moon,25,  of Louisville, was charged with eight felony counts of conspiracy to commit fraud.
• His passenger Xavier D. Smith,24 (address unknown at this time,) was charged with  eight  felony counts of fraud and one misdemeanor count of fraudulent government document. Both were booked into the Putnam County Jail.

​The Indiana State Police Trooper reportedly stopped the 2018 Nissan Maxima for speeding and erratic passing on eastbound Interstate 70 near the 35 mile marker around 4 a.m.

Sgt. Joe Watts explained today that Smith produced a fake identification card to the trooper, adding that information ultimately was developed that led to a search of the vehicle.

Inside the vehicle and in the suspects' possession were:

• One computer
• One credit card imprinter 
• One credit card embosser 
• Fake identification and credit cards
• Numerous items believed to have been purchased with fake credit cards

"The fake cards were believed to have been used at various locations in the states of Illinois, Kentucky and Missouri," Watts said.

Deputies from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
