Indiana Central News Indiana State Police troopers rushed into action to fight two overnight blazes, just hours apart and in neighboring counties, by using their standard issued fire extinguishers. According to Sgt. Joe Watts, troopers were alerted to a fully engulfed shed and related grass fire in rural Clay County, when they saw smoke coming from the scene. They contacted the Emergency Dispatch Center, just before 8 p.m. and jumped into action. "Troopers Todd Brown, David Petrowski, James Crisp and Kyle Hall then utilized their fire extinguishers to keep the fire from spreading to the house,' Watts said. Posey Township Firefighters arrived a short time later. Two of the same troopers encountered another blaze a few hours later. Troopers James Crisp and Kyle Hall responded to a grass fire in the median of eastbound Interstate 70 near the 48 mile marker in Putnam County just after midnight. "The fire was approximately 25-feet in length and due to the quick action of the troopers responding and utilizing their standard issued fire extinguishers, the fire was completely extinguished," Watts said.
