Two-vehicle crash kills woman and child, injures 2

SULLIVAN COUNTY - A mother and her child are dead following a two-vehicle crash in rural Sullivan County Tuesday morning.

Deceased:

• Ashley Hedden, 38, of Sullivan
• Grace Hedden, 10, of Sullivan

Transported to a local hospital for injuries suffered in the crash:

• A surviving daughter of Ashley Hedden
• Driver of the other vehicle, Gary Ferree, 62, of Sullivan

Ashley and Grace Hedden were dead at the scene, Sgt. Matt Ames, of the Indiana State Police, said.

Emergency crews responded to the crash between a pickup truck and passenger vehicle  at the junction of County Road 300 North and County Road 350 West around 7:20 a.m.

According to the report, Ferree was traveling southbound on County Road 350 West in a 2021 in a Dodge pickup truck.

Ames explained that Ferree failed to yield at the posted stop sign located on the northbound side of the junction.

"He continued southbound, forcefully striking a 2008 Lincoln driven by  Hedden, traveling eastbound," Ames said.

Both vehicles went off the roadway, with the Lincoln rolling onto the driver’s side.
